Category: Let's talk
Hi everyone: Well we've had topics dealing with favorite sounds, perfulmes, etc. I'd like to know what some of your favorite smells are. I'll start off. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love coffee. I like the smell of it almost better than the taste. I love grinding my own coffee beans, too. Follwed by a very close second is the smell of rain.
Lou
Mine are rain, clean water, newly built things made of wood or plastic, the pages of print books, chocolate, baking or just-baked sweet foods, peaches, and anything scented such as candles, Potpourri,
colors and markers, and Scratch and Sniff stickers.
Almost any kind of flower. We have a honeysuckle bush next to front porch that I love. I also love the way the air smells just after a rain, freshly cut grass, the way my clothes smell just out of the dryer, almost any perfume especially in a crowd when a lot of perfumes being warn by many people sort of drift through the air, and the pot pouri or candle scents one smells in stores that sell that sort of thing. And, of course, I love the way my cat smells. No, not the litter box, but when he is sleeping sometimes I bury my nose in his fur and inhale. Then I have to get the cat hair out of my nose, but yeah, I just like the way he smells.
The smell of freshly mown grass, floral and spicy perfumes, the smell of gasoline. Cakes baking, chicken frying and so many other good foods. Much more.
I like the s the smell of fragrances, such as body sprays (I have plenty of those) the smell of washing powders, and I love the smell of cake.
I like the smell of cut grass, flowers, and rain. I also like various calones and aftershaves. I also like the smell of food at a food vender rather it would be at the fair or whatever.
Troy
I love the smell of freshly cut grass, that smell right before it's about to rain, new money, new books, most fabric softeners, and the smell of things baking. Oh, and I love the smell of the sea, not the fish smell, but that smell you get when you're out on a boat, and the wind's blowing, and the spray is hitting you. Oh, and the smell of permanent markers. And alcohol.
I like freshly cut grass also, food that is cooking, and I also like permanent markers for whatever weird reason.
Baked sweet food, flowers and ... all kinds of sweet things and cooked things.
Jaguar, I agree. Gasoline is up there! I don't know how oldyou are, but I'm 49, and they've putso many aditives in gasoline that it doesn't smell near as good as it did when I was a child. We used to have a cat who was obsessed with cleanliness, and she smelled wonderful. When I got married, my wife and my first cat had this little head, and this very long body, and she couldn't do the best cleaning job.
Ewwww, Gasoline? And yes, the smell of the sea ... good point.
You should smell 2 stroke petrol for trail bikes it's unique Sandalwood incense, forests after heavy rain, the cold raw smell before snow, and bog myrtle which is gorgeous.
Nobody has mentioned the smell of jet fuel yet, I love that smell, probably because I associate it with travelling and seeing new places and experiencing adventure. :)
And, of course, the smell of my baby's skin, she doesn't even need perfume, her skin just smells incredibly feminine and amazing *smiles*.
Also, rnadom thought, little baby's heads smell really good, warm and cuddly. This may sound just kind of weird but if you smell a baby when you're holding him/her it's true that they give off this very faint scent that just gets right to ya and makes you want to keep them safe and secure.
And, of course, peaches, you can't beat the smell of ripe peaches, incredibly yummie.
Wildebrew, believe it or not, you're not crazy :-). Babies have this scent for precisely that reason, i.e. to make you feel protective. It's an evolutionary fact. The shape of their head falls into the same category: we're programmed to want to protect them when we so much as see and/or feel the shape of their heads. Don't they teach you that in biology class in Iceland? :-) As for my favorite scents, I won't tell y'all that it's my fiance's scent because then you'd all just find it corny *grin*. So, I'll stick with the scent of hot sun on pine trees.
rain, callone and whatnat, the smell of cooking food, the pages of a book (don't ask) and mountain air.
Wow. Good to know that stuff about babies' heads. *smiles*
Well, I didn't actually know babies, heads smelt of anything. I like the smell of clean babies in general, you know, the baby powder and wet wipes smell, but I also like petrol, Diesel if you're on a bus or one of those small ferry boats, most car smells but I prefer new car smells to older car smells, frying or baking foods, a few washing comforts and fabric softeners, most of the perfumes I've collected over the years and quite a few of which I still have in a round wooden box or scattered round my bedroom, scented candles, Christmas cake, roast dinners, brand new leather when you buy a new pair of shoes or a new handbag or something and coffee, most instant coffees and even better, fresh coffee.
er, that's all I can think of now, but if I have any more, I can always post them on here.
The smell of rain, and right after it does so, and the smell of my perfume, it's a scent by Carla Fracci.
I believe it's got honey, white flowers, and a bit of vinella, though I can't smell the vinella, but it's positively divine. Also love the smell of Jasmin, and my partner's skin after his coming out of the shower, or anytime for that matter.
*smile*
wet rotting autumn leaves, woodsmoke, good single malt whisky, lnyx Africa bodyspray.
My favourite smells would be catalogues and tea bags, weird huh? smile
oo, forgot to mention wood smoke
I love the smell of Vanilla (no matter if it#s parfume or anything else)
I love the smell of lavender, lilac, vanilla, lilly, and freshly mowed grass.
I forgot to mention that I love the smell of grocery stores. And, when I walk down one oone of the isles, that contain loaves of bread, I love the smell of that too. Mmm! Freshly baked bread! I can just taste it! lol
I agree with Kerry and Daria. All good smells as well. Dammit. You can't only have one favourite smell.
The smell of a nice grilled T-bone steak smells mighty damn fine to me.
i love the smell of my friends perfume, though not too keen on it myself, rain, cut grass, fried or baked foods, especially breads, scented candles, the smell of a new print book, leather, gosh there's loads of them. I used to love the smell of my half brother's head when he was a baby, that was nice. i used to bury my nose in that. i love the smell of jack's after shave and coffee.
Some of my favorite smells are the ocean, Indian and Thai food, good coffee, expresso, and mint, like mint leaves or peppermint tea etc. Also, a new solid wood acoustic guitar can have a nice natural wood smell.
Agreed about the T-bone-steak.
Nothing like the smell of freshly cut lumber.
MMM I have to share in three smells already mentioned Coffee, rain and pages of print books. Some others are cotton candy, my sitruss smoothy shampoo :) and chocolate.
Oh my, the smell of chocolate can't beat it. i didn't mean i disliked the smell of my friends perfume, but when i put it on myself, it doesn't smell as good.
freshly cut grass, gasoline, and anything new. I just love opening up brand new dvd's or electronics. Fun stuff. I also like the smell of a basement. Don't know why.
Various body sprays and perfumes, rain, wood smoke, coffee, bacon, freshly baked brownies or cookies, more...
Wow! Out of the past! Freshly baked bread, burning wood or leaves.
Ah, definitely the smell of baking bread, especially if it's in your oven. I also love the smell of my colognes, cigarrette smoke on a jean jacket, chimney soke on a rain soaked day, acoustic guitars, a subtle sweet fragrance on a woman, my pillow, distant skunk in the morning, motorcycles, grilling any kind of meat, freshly done laundry... wow, so many more.
Anyone ever smelled a new cane before? Love that.
I also like the smell of newly laid asphalt, can't imagine why though. There's this fragrance, I think it's called Juniper Breeze that reminds me of my mom.
Think I'll add the smell of any kind of chocolate, and a good expensive man's cologne.
Sun tan lotion. I love being in a crowded place in the summer and smelling sun tan lotion on people nearby. It reminds me of hanging out at the beach or pool in the summer, although due to very fair skin that burns easily, I've never really done much of that.
wow...I haven't seen scratch-and-sniff stickers since...maybe fourth grade! those were so much fun. I love the smell of rain, coffee (like the smell much more than the taste), candles and fragrance oils, baking goods and coconut.
A little science behind the sense of smell: You know how when you smell something familiar, it often brings back many memories? There is a part of the brain--the limbic system--that equates memory and the senses. So it kind of brings memories, emotions and senses together to create one nice picture. The next time you smell lilacs and think about a long-ago trip to the park, you'll know a little about why that happened.
By the way, this is a very simplified version of the whole thing, so my aim is not to achieve precise accuracy.
Man, I forgot about those scratch-and-sniffs! And those smelly markers, good stuff.
I also forgot to mention my friend's puppy has this naturally sweet pancake smell that I just love.
news paper,. The smell after it rains and freshly mode grass.
Mmm, I love new cane smell, it's incredibly sweet, and it lasts for about a month.
Chocolate cookies baking. Makes me want to eat the entire pan.
My favorite smell is the sweet.
coffee, ocean air, rain, baking bread, lily of the valley, honey suckle, lilacs, turkey dinner, fried chicken, and new freshly hatched things like babies, kittens, or puppies.
do you know that smelling markers kills jillions and jillions of brain cells? sniff carefully. i for one don't have that many to waste.
Holy wow, y'all have hit apon so many great smells!
Coffee beans, fresh grass, and rain to hit a few.
Lavender, Christmas Trees, Cedar, Yukaliptis, Apple-Cinimon.
The popcorn paws of dogs, so flippin yummy!
Most men's fragrances.
Men's fragrance mingled with leather.
Books and magazines.
Celery, I use to smell it forever as a kid! Don't like to eat it though. *grin*
the smell of dogs' paws? Hmmm. i'll see if Ditra will let me sniff one of hers to see if it actually has an odor. I like the smell of her fur because she had a bath a couple of days ago. lol
Love the smell of coffee to, but it tastes nothing like it smells, ergo I refuse to drink it!
Roses & lilacs. The smell of summer. Camp fires & winter, the smell after it rains. . . Man I'm gettin all nostalgic now. Lol.
The smell of a big breakfast from back in the day. Either French Toast or pancakes with bacon eggs & sausages on the side.
I can't remember if I mentioned this, but I love the smell of gasoline when I was a child. I guess they've put so many aditives in it they killed the good smell. I also like the smell they add to natural gas.
Lou
I love the smell of anything fruity, especially berries. I also like the smell of scented crayons. The smell of plastic, such as how baby dolls smell, is also likable to me. I sometimes smell my doll babies for fun. i know it sounds strange, but i like how they smell. And yes, I love baby dolls. Not to mention, I like the smell of rubber, like new shoes or tires. Vanilla is also a hit with me.
I once had this spray that was browny scented, sadly, they do not sell it anymore.
A friend of mine back in high school had perfume that smelled like bayb powder. I liked that. *smile* I also love the smell of perfumes from Bath and bodyworks, mainly night-blooming Jasmine, warm vanilla sugar, and lavender vanilla.
foods cooking or baking, chocolate, perfume/lotion, coffee, flowers, when my clothes are done in the dryer (LOL!!), etc. I know I have more, just can't think of them now.
I love the smell of fresh rain, clean laundry, Lavender, flowers, and a lot of body shop products. My favorite flower smells are lilacs, Lillies, and Roses.
For foods, I love the smell of barbecuing hamburgers, steak, and I love the smell of baking chicken, and of course, any frying foods, but particularly the barbecued foods, as they remind me of the summer months.
They say that the sense of smell is the most likely to spark certain memories.
O yes, I forgot to mention, last but not least, I love the smell of the ocean.
old books, baseballs, anything leather, cut grass, rain, new cars, bacon frying, laundry fresh out of the dryer, sunscreen, hay, and the lumber department at any hardware store.
I also like the smell of new books, CD's, DVD's, ETC. I don't even know why.
Chocolate, cookies baking, fresh flowers, lol
MMM Chocolate.
Oo! Sitting here with a cup of Kenco instant, windows open, windchimes having a field day and smells of barbecue smoke, woodsmoke intermingling with petrol fumes from the main road just outside here, lol, the smell of early summer! Fabulous!
Jen.
I like the smell of woodfires too. It really relaxes me for some reason.
Yeah, I like woodfire smells too. I like the icy invigorating smell of snow on the way, I like the smell of pumpkin seeds and fresh watermelon and those Christmas candles with spices in their oils, I like the smell of a fine quality coffee, and there's this kind of tea that we get sometimes, and right when it boils it lets off this amazing light, sort of "feathery" scent (don't mind the unusual adjectives) and for some reason it relaxes me. The smell of cake with all those layers of cream and icing, the smell of muffins baking, or especially hot, fresh, dripping, lovely, cinnamon rolls....mmmmmmm omgomgomg anyway
Just this morning as I was coming down the steps
from the upstairs and heading towards the front door
Upon opening the door, then the screen door...
Ahhhh!!! Such wonderment to behold, to sniff at
For the blooms of trees of Springtime Season
as well as what appears to be the scent of
the neighbor's Lily of The Valley may be blooming.
Such a sweet natural gentleness to breath in.
